Melbourne is packed: 1,863 athletes are chasing AJJC gold

The Australian Jiu Jitsu Championship is underway in Melbourne. Adults compete today and Saturday. Kids take over on Sunday. Wave has 1,863 athletes and 3,083 registrations synced for AJJC 2026, from 205 academies. About 954 of those athletes are in adult divisions and 909 are in kids divisions. Finished matches have not landed in the index yet, so this is the field before the medals.

Adults today and Saturday

The biggest recorded squad is Australian Elite Team with 212 athletes. Dominance brought 118. Will Machado has 63, De Been 58, Cia Paulista Australia 55, and SJJA Team 52. Those rooms will be loud on the sideline for the next two days.

A few adult records worth opening before you pick a favourite. Darrian Areai of Southside BJJ comes in at white belt on 33–3 and is entered in adult gi ultra-heavy plus the absolute. Armen Alexander of Galeb BJJ is 32–5 at purple and entered in Master 3 heavy and the gi absolute.

Three unbeaten adults are also on the card. Taran Vance of Peninsula MMA is 25–0 at blue in super-heavy and the gi absolute. Zak Angelevski of Sydney Wrestling Academy is 21–0 at brown in no-gi super-heavy. Greer Mason of Lemos BJJ is 20–0 at blue and entered in Master 2 gi light plus the absolute.

Queensland just had its state championship three weeks ago. Laura Graham of Studio 55 went 8–0 there in her first recorded event, and she is back in adult white-belt gi, no-gi, and both absolutes. Travis Morgan of SJJA Team went 8–0 at purple at QLD States and is entered here in gi, no-gi, and the gi absolute. The QLD States recap has those weekends in full.

A Master 2 rematch with seven previous meetings

Blake Russo of Carlson Gracie Gold Coast and Danilo Pereira of Arte Suave have seven recorded meetings already, all in Master blue-belt no-gi. Russo won the most recent one on points in the QLD States absolute. Pereira won one of the earlier meetings at the Ipswich Open. Both are entered again at AJJC, including the Master 2 no-gi absolute.

Kids on Sunday

Sunday is a full kids card: 909 athletes in boys, girls, and juvenile divisions. The recorded records there are huge. Ezlan Hewitt of Forza Jiu Jitsu is 103–10 at grey and entered in Pee Wee I gi and no-gi. Riley Stevens of Lemos is 69–15 in the same age band. Theo Taylor of SJJA Team is 61–8 and went 7–0 at QLD States.

Three grey belts come in unbeaten on Wave. Danny Fayad of High Rollers is 53–0. Amias Ishimwe of Southside is 41–0. Aden Grajzman of Complete MMA is 37–0 and went 9–0 at QLD States. Those are kids' competition records, not an adult ranking argument. They are still the matches parents will want on one page on Sunday night.

Rory Mulhern of Gracie Barra Carlton and Ashton Price of Lake Macquarie Jiu-Jitsu have seven recorded meetings already. Both are entered in Pee Wee III on Sunday, though Mulhern is grey and Price is yellow, so they may not meet in the same bracket. Their head-to-head page has the history either way.
